Tibetan Mastiff Breed Information
The TM is a loyal companion, watch and guard dog. Although the TM is patient, gentle and loyal, the TM is also independent and powerful. These are highly intelligent animals. They are protective and aloof and wary of strangers- this is a true guardian breed. Good with older, considerate children due to their size.
Ranges of height and weight for males and females are below. The TM is very slow to mature, with females reaching full size at 2-3 years and males at least 4 years.
Height: males 26" to 30"; females 24"-28"+.
Weight: males. 100-160 + lbs.; females 75-120 + lbs.
Health problems that have been found on occasion in the Tibetan Mastiff include hypothyroidism, hip and elbow dysplasia, entropion / ectropion, epilepsy, canine inherited demyelinative neuropathy (CIDN), Panosteitis, cancer, Addison’s and Cushing’s disease.
